An early morning breakfast!
Seen here is a juvenile Black-headed Ibis foraging a twisted tree trunk in the wetlands. His thin downward-curved beak and long legs are designed to help him forage the shallow pools. This waterfowl can also forage underwater with his entire head submerged!
Particularly liked by farmers, as they get the water-snails out of their farms and generally help keep their waters and farms clean.
A close cousin to the now extinct Egyptian Sacred Ibis, Ibises symbolize wisdom, knowledge and writing (like the Indian Goddess Saraswati!)
The ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs feature the ibis as the first letter. While the Ibis, as the human hybrid form of Thoth and in its own form, occurs across art forms in Egypt.
